Sustainability

RG Ireland | MJ Scannell

Sustainability is an integral component of RG Ireland | MJ Scannell’s operational strategy and long-term development framework. In alignment with the ESG commitments of Groupe RG, the company is engaged in a continuous improvement approach aimed at reducing environmental impact, improving resource efficiency, and contributing to a more responsible and resilient industrial ecosystem.

The environmental strategy is structured across key focus areas including energy management and decarbonisation, circular economy and waste reduction, operational efficiency, sustainable mobility, and responsible business practices across the value chain.

Sustainability considerations are embedded into day-to-day operations across both Dublin and Cork facilities and are supported by ongoing investment, monitoring, and process optimisation.

Renewable Energy & Carbon Reduction

At the Cork facility, solar energy infrastructure has been deployed and currently generates approximately 67% of the site’s total energy consumption. This significantly reduces dependence on conventional grid electricity and supports the decarbonisation of operational activities.

Surplus renewable energy generated is exported back to the national grid, contributing to wider energy efficiency and supporting carbon reduction beyond the company’s direct operations. This initiative forms part of a broader commitment to increasing renewable energy usage and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with Groupe RG ESG objectives.

Energy consumption is continuously reviewed to identify further opportunities for optimisation and emissions reduction across all operational sites.

Energy Efficiency & Operational Optimisation

Energy efficiency measures are systematically implemented across office and operational environments. LED lighting systems have been installed throughout facilities in Dublin and Cork, contributing to reduced electricity consumption and improved energy performance.

In addition to lighting upgrades, energy efficiency is supported through ongoing operational optimisation, including improved facility management practices and responsible equipment usage.

These initiatives are aligned with Groupe RG’s broader objective of improving environmental performance across all subsidiaries through practical, measurable efficiency improvements.

Waste Management & Circular Economy

RG Ireland | MJ Scannell is a registered member of Repak Ireland, ensuring compliance with national packaging waste recovery obligations. Annual reporting is completed in accordance with regulatory requirements, ensuring full transparency, traceability, and accountability in packaging waste management.

A structured internal cardboard recovery system has been implemented across sites. Used cardboard is processed through shredding equipment and repurposed as protective packaging material. This significantly reduces reliance on single-use materials such as plastic bubble wrap and foam fillers.

Additional circular economy initiatives include:

  • Reduction of single-use packaging materials where possible
  • Reuse of inbound packaging materials where appropriate
  • Improved segregation and recycling practices across facilities
  • Continuous optimisation of packaging processes to reduce waste generation

These measures support improved material efficiency and align with broader circular economy principles promoted within Groupe RG.

Sustainable Mobility & Transport

Electric vehicle charging infrastructure has been installed at both Dublin and Cork sites to support the transition towards low-emission transport solutions.

These facilities are available for employees and visitors and support the gradual electrification of transport usage associated with company operations. This infrastructure also supports future fleet transition planning and contributes to the reduction of transport-related emissions.

In addition, the company supports logistics efficiency measures aimed at reducing unnecessary transport impact, including:

  • Improved delivery planning and consolidation
  • Optimisation of transport routes where applicable
  • Reduction of unnecessary movements through improved warehouse coordination

These actions contribute to the overall reduction of indirect emissions associated with operational activity.

Digitalisation & Resource Reduction

Sustainability performance is further supported through the ongoing digitalisation of business processes. The reduction of paper-based workflows contributes to lower resource consumption and improved operational efficiency.

Key initiatives include:

  • Increased use of digital documentation and communication systems
  • Reduction of printed materials across administrative processes
  • Electronic invoicing and reporting systems
  • Continued reduction of paper dependency across operations

These measures support both environmental performance and operational efficiency objectives in line with Groupe RG’s digital transformation and sustainability priorities.

Sustainable Procurement & Supply Chain Responsibility

Environmental and social considerations are increasingly integrated into procurement and supply chain activities.

RG Ireland | MJ Scannell is committed to engaging with suppliers who demonstrate responsible environmental practices and align with recognised standards of quality and sustainability. Consideration is given to product lifecycle impact, material efficiency, and responsible sourcing principles where applicable.

This approach supports the development of more sustainable supply chains and is aligned with Groupe RG’s ESG framework, which promotes responsible procurement and supplier engagement across all subsidiaries.

Employee Engagement & Environmental Awareness

Employees play an important role in supporting environmental performance. A culture of responsibility and awareness is encouraged across all levels of the organisation.

This includes:

  • Promotion of responsible energy and resource usage
  • Awareness of waste reduction and recycling practices
  • Engagement in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Integration of environmental considerations into daily operational behaviour

This cultural approach reinforces the effectiveness of technical and operational sustainability measures.

Continuous Improvement & ESG Alignment

Sustainability is managed within a structured continuous improvement framework. Performance is regularly reviewed and enhanced through operational monitoring, investment in infrastructure, and process optimisation.

RG Ireland | MJ Scannell remains fully aligned with Groupe RG ESG priorities and contributes to Group-level objectives focused on reducing environmental impact, improving energy efficiency, and advancing responsible business practices across Europe.

The company continues to strengthen its environmental performance through practical initiatives, measurable improvements, and long-term investment in sustainable operations.

As part of Groupe RG, RG Ireland | MJ Scannell contributes to a wider European commitment to responsible and sustainable industrial development.

The company recognises that sustainability is an evolving responsibility requiring ongoing adaptation, innovation, and accountability. Through investment in renewable energy, circular economy initiatives, digital transformation, and operational efficiency, the company continues to reduce its environmental footprint and strengthen its contribution to a more sustainable future.
