Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a core element of RG Ireland | MJ Scannell’s business approach and reflects the broader ESG commitments of Groupe RG. As a company operating within the personal protective equipment and safety solutions sector, we recognise our responsibility not only to deliver high-quality products and services, but also to contribute positively to people, communities, and the wider society in which we operate.

Our CSR framework is built around four key pillars: our people, community engagement, responsible business practices, and our role in promoting safer working environments. These pillars guide our approach to long-term, sustainable, and responsible business development.

 

Our People

The wellbeing, safety, and development of employees is central to the organisation’s CSR approach. A structured and proactive approach is taken to ensure that health, safety, inclusion, and professional development are embedded within the company culture.

Health, safety, and wellbeing are actively managed through a formal Safety Committee, which meets at least monthly. The committee is composed of employees from multiple functions across the organisation and is responsible for reviewing all aspects of health and safety performance, identifying improvements, and maintaining detailed records and action tracking. This ensures continuous oversight and ongoing enhancement of workplace safety and wellbeing standards.

Training and development are key priorities within the organisation. A structured training matrix is in place across all roles, supported by regular training programmes delivered throughout the year. A significant proportion of roles (approximately 95%) are filled through internal recruitment, reflecting a strong commitment to career progression and talent development.

The company’s appraisal system is based on both skills development and cultural objectives, rather than purely performance-based metrics. This approach encourages participation, continuous learning, and long-term professional growth. Employees are supported in developing new skills beyond their current roles, enabling broader career pathways and personal development opportunities.

The organisation is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, reflected in a workforce ranging from 18 to 67 years old and representing eight different nationalities with a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds. This diversity contributes to an inclusive, collaborative, and dynamic working environment.

 

Community Engagement & Social Impact

RG Ireland | MJ Scannell is committed to supporting meaningful initiatives that deliver tangible and lasting social value, both locally and internationally. The company’s approach to community engagement is based on practical support, long-term relationships, and the responsible reuse of resources to maximise impact.

In Ireland, the company is proud to support CanTeen Ireland, which provides counselling services, peer support, and community programmes for young people affected by cancer. This partnership reflects a commitment to supporting organisations that deliver essential emotional and social support services to individuals and families in need.

The company also actively supports local educational institutions, including Aston Village Educate Together National School and St. Benildus College, through the donation and repurposing of IT equipment. This includes the provision of Mini PCs, monitors, and other equipment which has been refurbished or repurposed to extend its useful life and support digital learning environments.

By repurposing existing IT equipment and redirecting it into educational settings, the company contributes to both digital inclusion and resource efficiency, ensuring that technology continues to deliver value beyond its original operational use. These initiatives help enhance learning environments, improve access to digital tools, and support students in developing essential digital skills.

 

Education & International Development – Zambia Programme

RG Ireland | MJ Scannell is actively involved in an international development initiative in Zambia, in partnership with St. Benildus College.

Through this programme, students travel to Zambia to support the construction of schools and assist with local community development projects. These initiatives contribute to improving educational infrastructure and supporting essential services in underserved regions.

As part of this programme, RG Ireland provides a full range of personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that students and local communities can carry out their work safely. This support plays a critical role in enabling safe participation in construction and development activities while reinforcing the importance of workplace safety in all environments.

This initiative reflects a shared commitment to education, global citizenship, and sustainable community development, while helping to bridge resource and infrastructure gaps in regions where support is most needed.

Supplier responsibility is actively managed through structured auditing processes and compliance frameworks, including engagement with recognised platforms such as Sedex, where applicable. This supports transparency, ethical sourcing, and accountability within the supply chain.

Customer relationships are built on a commitment to supporting safer working environments. As a provider of PPE and safety solutions, the company plays a direct role in helping organisations across Ireland improve workplace safety standards and reduce occupational risk.

Long-term partnerships are prioritised, with an emphasis on trust, reliability, and shared responsibility, rather than short-term transactional relationships.

 

Our Role in Society

As part of the PPE and safety solutions industry, RG Ireland | MJ Scannell has a direct responsibility to contribute to safer working environments. This responsibility extends beyond product supply to promoting awareness of workplace safety and supporting improved standards across a wide range of sectors.

By enabling safer workplaces, the company contributes directly to the protection of workers across Ireland and supports the reduction of occupational risk. This role is central to the organisation’s identity and aligns closely with the broader mission of Groupe RG.

CSR is therefore fully integrated into the company’s purpose and operations, rather than being treated as a separate function.
